Women's Call for Peace: An Urgent Appeal
We, the women of the United States, Iraq and women worldwide, have had enough of the senseless war in Iraq and the cruel attacks on civilians around the world. We've buried too many of our loved ones. We've seen too many lives crippled forever by physical and mental wounds. We've watched in horror as our precious resources are poured into war while our families' basic needs of food, shelter, education and healthcare go unmet. We've had enough of living in constant fear of violence and seeing the growing cancer of hatred and intolerance seep into our homes and communities.
This is not the world we want for ourselves or our children. With fire in our bellies and love in our hearts, we women are rising up - across borders - to unite and demand an end to the bloodshed and the destruction.
We have seen how the foreign occupation of Iraq has fueled an armed movement against it, perpetuating an endless cycle of violence. We are convinced that it is time to shift from a military model to a conflict-resolution model that includes the following elements:
To move this peace process forward, we are creating a massive movement of women - crossing generations, races, ethnicities, religions, borders and political persuasions. Together, we will pressure our governments, the United Nations, the Arab League, Nobel Peace Prize winners, religious leaders and others in the international community to step forward to help negotiate a political settlement. And in this era of divisive fundamentalisms, we call upon world leaders to join us in spreading the fundamental values of love for the human family and for our precious planet.

"Someone Tell Bush That Iraq Wasn’t Responsible for 9/11 Before another War Breaks Out"
Landstuhl ist der Sitz des riesigen US-Militärkrankenhauses für Europa. Hierhin werden fast alle im Irak oder in Afghanistan verwundeten US-Soldaten gebracht. Es kommen täglich neue Verwundete – etwa 30.000 seit März 2003. Diejenigen, die hier sterben, werden nicht in der amtlichen Liste der Kriegsgefallenen aufgenommen. Hier wurde die Leiche von Cindys Sohn Casey präpariert.
Ramstein (nur 3 km von Landstuhl) ist der Flughafen, von wo aus das Frischfleisch“ in den Krieg geschickt wird sowie der Nachschub von Kriegsgerät und Munition abgewickelt wird, der hauptsächlich in Deutschland organisiert wird. Ramstein hält etwa 130 Atomwaffen bereit, und der Flughafen wird eben jetzt ausgeweitet. Cindy Sheehan ist eine ehemalige Lehrerin, Hausfrau und Mutter aus Kalifornien. Ihr Sohn Casey ist am 04. April 2004 in Irak gefallenen. Am 06. August 2005 ging Cindy so nahe wie erlaubt wurde an die Sommerresidenz von U.S. Präsident George W. Bush, seine Ranch in Crawford, Texas, heran und forderte ihn auf, sich der Frage zu stellen: für welche “edle Sache” (“noble cause," laut Bush) ihr Sohn sterben mußte. Bush kam nicht heraus. Bis Ende August, als Bush nach Washington abreiste, weigerte sich Cindy, ihren Platz am Straßenrand zu verlassen. Camp Casey, Texas. Im August sind dann etwa 10.000 Menschen nach Crawford gereist, um sie zu unterstützen. Wochenlang haben diese Anhänger bei 30 Grad Hitze in Zelten entlang den Straßen von Texas gewohnt. Das Zeltlager haben sie "Camp Casey" genannt, das nur durch die Mitarbeit folgender Organisationen möglich war: The Crawford Peace House, Veterans for Peace, Gold Star Famlies for Peace, Iraq Veterans Against the War, Military Famlies Speak Out, Not in Our Name, und Code Pink. Camp Casey war ein Ort des Protests, aber auch ein Ort der Musik, Liebe, Spaß...wie eine Mischung von Woodstock und Selma, Alabama. Cindys Frage hat Bush noch immer nicht beantwortet. Camp Casey setzt sich fort. Ende August, 2005, starteten viele von Camp Casey aus The Bring Them Home Now Karawanne, drei Bussen nach Norden, Osten, und Süden durch 28 US-Bundesländer und 58 Städten gefahren sind. Sie haben die an mehr als 200 Veranstaltungen teilgenommen, die von Friedensgruppen und Gewerkschaften unterstützt wurden. Die Busse sind dann in Washington DC am 21. September zusammengekommen, um an der Demo am 14. September dabei zu sein - die größte seit Beginn des Irakkrieges. Die o.g. Organisationen arbeiten noch zusammen und kehren wieder nach Crawford zurück wenn Bush sich in seiner Ranch aufhält (z.B. am Thanksgiving, Weihnachten). Dort planen sie weitere Veranstaltungen in ganz USA. US-Botschafterin für den Frieden. Seit Dezember ist Cindy zu einer Art Botschafterin für die Mehrheit der AmerikanerInnen geworden, die einen Abzug der US-Truppen aus Irak wünschen. Sie wurde schon von wichtigen Regierungsbeamten in Großbritannien, Irland, Spanien, und Italien empfangen. Mayor Florian Pfaff, ein US-Irak Veteran gegen den Krieg, und US-FriedensaktivistInnen aus ganz Europa werden mit Cindy nach Landstuhl und Ramstein kommen. Der deutsche Major Pfaff hat NEIN zur deutschen Beteiligung am Irakkrieg gesagt, hat sich verweigert, Software, die eventuell für den Irak-Krieg benutzt werden könnte, vorzubereiten. Im Sommer 2005 hat das Bundesverwaltungsgericht in Leipzig ihm Recht gegeben .
Das Bundesverwaltungsgericht in Leipzig hat gravierende völkerrechtliche Bedenken gegen die deutsche Unterstützung des Irak-Krieges angemeldet.
Die Bundesregierung hatte den USA und Großbritannien unter anderem Überflugrechte und den Schutz ihrer Einrichtungen auf deutschem Boden zugesichert.
Die Unterstützung einer völkerrechtswidrigen Militäraktion könne nicht nur durch militärische Kampfhandlungen, sondern auch auf logistischem Wege erfolgen, hieß es in dem Urteil, wie die Nachrichtenagentur AP berichtet. Wie die Bundesverwaltungsrichter weiter feststellten, kann ein Verstoß gegen das völkerrechtliche Gewaltverbot nicht ohne weiteres deshalb verneint werden, weil die Bundesregierung wiederholt zum Ausdruck gebracht hatte, dass sich deutsche Soldaten nicht an Kampfhandlungen beteiligen würden.
Die Richter hielten in ihrem Spruch fest, dass gegen den Irak-Krieg erhebliche rechtliche Bedenken bestünden, vor allem im Hinblick auf das in der Charta der Vereinten Nationen festgeschriebene Gewaltverbot. Für den von ihnen begonnen Krieg konnten sich nach Feststellung der Richter die Regierungen der USA und Großbritanniens weder auf sie ermächtigende Beschlüsse des UN-Sicherheitsrates noch auf ein Selbstverteidigungsrecht berufen.
Keine Verpflichtung zur Unterstützung !
Zugleich machten die Richter klar, dass es keinerlei Verpflichtungen der Bundesrepublik gegenüber der NATO gebe, "entgegen der UN-Charta und dem geltenden Völkerrecht völkerrechtswidrige Handlungen von NATO-Partnern zu unterstützen." Die umfangreiche völkerrechtliche Würdigung des Irak-Kriegs und der deutschen Unterstützungsleistungen hielten die Richter in einem Urteil fest, mit dem ein Major der Bundeswehr freigesprochen worden war. Er hatte im April 2003 den Befehl verweigert, an der weiteren Entwicklung eines militärischen Software-Programms mitzuwirken.

Papst empfängt Laura Bush zur Privataudienz , 9. Februar 2006 - Rom (AFP) - Papst Benedikt XVI. hat am Morgen die First Lady der USA, Laura Bush, zu einer Privataudienz im Vatikan empfangen. Bei der 15-minütigen Audienz waren außer der Ehefrau von US-Präsident George W. Bush auch ihre Tochter Barbara und der US-Botschafter im Vatikan, Francis Rooney, anwesend. Die ganz in Schwarz gekleidete Präsidentengattin überreichte dem katholischen Kirchenoberhaupt als Geschenk eine silbernen Schale, die US-Delegation erhielt vom Papst Medaillen und Rosenkränze..........Bei dem freundschaftlichen Treffen habe der Papst der Präsidentengattin einen „schönen Aufenthalt“ in Italien gewünscht und erklärt, sie solle ihrem Mann seine „herzlichsten Grüße“ übermitteln.

Pope JOHN PAUL II also appealed to Blair against Iraq war ! January 13, 2003 Pope says "No" to war in Iraq VATICAN CITY (Reuters) - Pope John Paul condemns the possibility of a war in Iraq, saying it could be avoided and that it would be a defeat for humanity.
He made clear his opposition on Monday in his annual "State of the World" address to diplomats accredited to the Vatican.
"No to war! War is not always inevitable. It is always a defeat for humanity," he said. "And what are we to say of the threat of a war which could strike Iraq, the land of the Prophets, a people already sorely tried by more than 12 years of embargo?," he said. "War is never just another means that one can choose to employ for settling differences between nations," he said in a clear reference to the military build-up for a possible U.S.-led war against Iraq over its alleged weapons of mass destruction programme.
He said international law and diplomacy were the only means worthy of resolving differences. "As the Charter of the United Nations organisation and international law itself remind us, war cannot be decided upon, even when it is a matter of ensuring the common good, except as the very last option and in accordance with very strict conditions, without ignoring the
consequences for the civilian population both during and after the military operations," he said.
The pope said he had been struck recently by a "feeling of fear" in the hearts of people. He said the world was threatened not only by war
but also by "an insidious terrorism capable of striking at any time and anywhere." Reuters

ATLANTA - The widow of Martin Luther King Jr. spoke out against a possible U.S.-led war on Iraq, evoking the assassinated U.S. civil rights leader's message of nonviolence. "I believe that more people are thinking about him and yearning to hear his voice because of concerns about terrorism and the buildup of war," Coretta Scott King told Reuters. King said there were alternative means to possible war with Iraq, such as negotiation. "When you use war as a way of settling disputes, you only cause more war," she said in an interview given to highlight the observance of the King holiday on Monday. "In the long run, the only way to have peace is to use peaceful means." |
